You know you pay a rice levy, but did you know the AgriFutures Rice Program is responsible for managing and investing that levy in research, development and extension projects?

Continued investment into rice research will ensure the industry can respond to increasing pressures on water resource availability and achieving the overarching Program goal of increasing the Australian rice industry’s water productivity to an average of 1.5 t/ML by 2026.

The RD&E investment is guided by an RD&E Plan that identifies and balances the research, development and extension priorities and outcomes to promote industry productivity, profitability and sustainability. The Plan includes four key objectives: (1) Optimised genetic improvement; (2) Agronomy and farming systems; (3) Coordinated industry extension; and (4) Strengthened industry capacity.

This snapshot provides an overview of the 14 current projects the Rice Program has underway addressing these objectives as well as the overarching priorities in the AgriFutures Australia Research and Innovation Strategic Plan (2022-2027).
