To survive in the harsh natural environment for agricultural production and the harsh international trade environment for selling its produce, Australian agriculture has been a very responsive industry to external shocks. This study investigates emerging issues in Australia’s rural industries with a view of enhancing their competitiveness in the world market.

Owners of rural properties, personnel of industry organisation bodies, researchers and journalists, and government officials will be visited and interviewed. The findings will also help to promote to the rest of the world, especially those countries where agriculture has been heavily subsidies, the fact that Australia’s agriculture is not only one of the most advanced and efficient but also is one of the few in today’s world that receive the least government support. Developing countries can also learn from Australia’s lessons and experiences in its agricultural development so that they can better develop their agriculture.
