Summary
For the ongoing growth and environmental sustainability of the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector, it is imperative that Australian rural industries implement new technologies and innovations to improve their response and resilience to natural disasters. This project will review innovation and technologies to improve Natural Disaster Management and will characterise: • Practical innovations and technologies available to improve rural industries’ natural disaster management, recovery and resilience • The potential impact of these technologies for agricultural businesses, including the commercial impact • The barriers to adoption for farmers, fishers and foresters, including the regional and policy environment required for adoption.

Objective Summary
The objective of the project is to provide AgriFutures Australia and rural industries generally: • A collation of existing technologies and innovations being used across rural industries. • Innovations and technologies that are on the horizon. This may include an international technology and innovation scan. • An understanding of the potential impact of these technologies for agricultural, fisheries and forestry businesses and potential return on investment from technology investments. • An examination of the potential barriers to adoption, including an analysis of the regional and policy environment required for the adoption of these technologies. • Undertake a case study on the 2019 Queensland monsoon trough to demonstrate how technology and innovation could improve agricultural industries’ natural disaster management, recovery and resilience.
