Summary

Sixteen trials have been chosen for measurement and analysis. The trials were established over a 10 year period between 1990 and 2000. The trials were set up to investigate sandalwood silvilculture and to investigate possible alternate long-term hosts. A short description of each trial is detailed below:

Objective Summary

The 16 trials selected will be able to present scientific information to the public on 5 aspects:
A. Tropical sandalwood growth rates, heartwood, oil production and product definition. This information will be gathered from trials 1. 8B1, 5. 8C EKD2, 8. 8C EKD5, 9. 8D1 (a), 10. 8D1 (B), 16. 11A -1, 17 11A -2, 20. 11C (B) and 21. 11C (C).

B. African Mahogany growth rates. This information will be gathered from trials 1. 8B1, 2. 8B2(5), 7. 8C-EKD4, 11. 8D1 (C), 13. 8D2 (C), 17. 11A-2 and 18. 11A-3

C. Tectona grandis growth rates. This information will be gathered from trials 20. 11C(B) and 26. Teak Levee Soil

D. Pongamia pinnata growth rate, seed production and seed oil quality. This information will be gathered from trials 1. 8B(1), 17. 11A-2 and 29. Pongamia seed production area.

E. Identify other tropical species that could either be used as a long-term host for sandalwood or as a Tropical timber project for the north. This information will be gathered from trials 1. 8B1, 2. 8B2 (5), 5. 8C EKD2, 7. 8C-EKD4, 8. 8C EKD5, 9. 8D1 (a), 10. 8D1 (B), 11. 8D1 (C), 13. 8D2 (C),16. 11A -1, 17 11A -2, 18. 11A-3,
