Summary

This project will provide an economic impact assessment of investment in the AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses RD&E Program 2017-2022 and the AgriFutures Ginger Program 2017-2022.

The Thoroughbred Horses Program invests breeder levies, Racing Australia voluntary contributions, and Government matching payments and is guided by a Strategic RD&E Plan. The Plan is structured around five priorities:

  1. Enhanced welfare and safety of thoroughbred horses, those who work with them and the sustainability of the industry.
  2. Improved breeding outcomes, foal health and development.
  3. Reduced incidence and impact of diseases and parasites in horses.
  4. Industry training and Program communication and extension supported.
  5. The industry’s economic contribution and its market are understood, and additional RD&E resources secured.

The AgriFutures Ginger Program has three priorities:

  1. Drive on-farm productivity – disease management, innovative technology, and certified seed.
  2. Lift the demand for Australian ginger – brand and market research.
  3. Encourage industry engagement – extension, communication, leaders, and partners.

The economic impact assessments will use cost-benefit analysis and be completed in a way that is consistent with the Cross-RDC Impact Assessment Program.
