Decision making in rural communities in relation to climate change


This project will provide: Articulation of the factors associated with responses of farming families to climate change A greater understanding fot he social and socioeconomic factors related to adaptation to climate change among farming families. It will describe the main sources of information used by farming famileis and farming communities to respond to climate change. A preliminary indication of where Government and other support providers should consider targeting support.

Objective Summary

Three research questions are proposed: 1. Which factors pertain to farmers' decisions about weather and, if so, how to adapt to climate change challenges? 2. Which of these factors are the most and least important? 3. Are there different types of farmers and, if so, do they differ with respect to factors that relate to their climate change adaptation behaviour?
