Objective Summary

This project will review five industry sectors outside agriculture to examine what innovations have occurred or are likely to occur, and what lessons and opportunities there may be for applying these innovations to Australian agriculture. Conversely, the research will also examine innovations in agriculture that could be applied for the benefit of other industry sectors. The objectives of the research are to: Identify innovations used or adopted over the last 10 years in agriculture and the five other industries sectors including: o What were the key drivers for the innovation solutions? o Who led or drove the search for the innovation solution? o What was the result of the innovation adoption? Examine the trends or future innovations being considered and likely to be used for each industry sector Investigate how the identified nonagricultural innovations might be applied to the agricultural sector Identify and document innovations occurring in the agricultural sector that could be considered by or applied to other industry sectors. For this project, the agriculture sector includes the agricultural, horticultural, pastoral, apicultural, aquacultural and commercial wild catch fishing industries and their supply chains. The five non agricultural sectors to be included in the research will be agreed with RIRDC and may be drawn from: Health Education Retail Tourism Manufacturing Transport Mining Forestry
