Chiral testing of commercial tea tree oil samples collected from cosmetic, therapeutic and pesticide products sold in North & South America, Europe and Asia. A target of 100 samples per year over three years will be screened for enantiomeric abundance of imonene, terpinen4ol and alphaterpineol (chiral purity) to ISO 4730:2017 Standard.

Objective Summary

1. Identify manufacturers who sell adulterated material as "100% pure Tea Tree Oil (TTO) steam distilled from Melaleuca alternifolia". 2. Protect the health and safety of users of TTO by reducing the incidence of product adulteration globally. 3. Enhance the reputation of the TTO supply chain by minimising the sale of adulterated material. 4. Provide the Australian TTO industry with a unique opportunity to promote and sell 100% pure Australian TTO that conforms to ATTIA’s Code of Practice (COP) and is guaranteed to be 100% pure Australian TTO.
