Summary

The carbon accounting tools – choosing a clear pathway to creating a carbon baseline project, aims to support producers in their agtech adoption journey. It aims to break down the barriers of carbon accounting and determine a clear pathway using the tools available to create producers carbon baselines. It gives producers the opportunity to learn one-on-one by giving them the opportunity to use their own data in the Greenhouse Accounting Frameworks (GAF) carbon accounting tool. GAF is the chosen carbon accounting tool to limit the issue of producers being overwhelmed by the wide selection of carbon accounting tools available. It has been developed by the University of Melbourne and aligns with the Australian National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (NGGI) and includes tools for cropping, beef and sheep, feedlot and dairy enterprises. Producers will use their own enterprise data to create a baseline for on farm greenhouse emissions and on farm carbon stocks. The producer will use this baseline data to identify areas of improvement and take that next step into carbon farming. Once established this tool can be continuously updated as future steps are taken by the producers to improve their emissions. Producers who have completed the one-on-one setup of their carbon account wont then have to rely on hiring other people to set their carbon accounts up. They will feel empowered by the knowledge gained from learning first hand how to set up and use their own carbon account.
