This project builds on the current RIRDC project (DAQ334A Differential typing of Campylobacter). This project has resulted in a series of tools for genotyping Campylobacter. These tools have been evaluated extensively, allowing those genotyping methods that convey the highest quality epidemiological information to be identified. The current proposal involves using these tools to understand the following: 1.Variation in genotypes within one large company operating across Australia. 2.Variation in genotypes within several companies operating within an intensive production region. 3.Variation in genotypes over time. The project will employ a full suite of genotyping methods that include: Single Nucleotide Polymorphism typing (SNP typing), High Resolution Melt (HRM) analysis of SNPs, Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST), Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE) and fla A typing by RFLP and HRM. In summary, the project will allow an understanding of the genotypes of Campylobacter in terms of national, regional and time influences.
