Summary

AgriFutures Australia investments are driven by five-year RD&E plans that address the needs of industries and stakeholders, and ensure the organisation’s priorities are industry and government driven. Its aim is to increase knowledge that fosters sustainable, productive new and existing rural industries and further understanding of national rural issues through research and developing in government-industry partnership. 

 

We wish to support AgriFutures’ in its objective to develop a Chicken Meat industry sustainability framework, with a focus on material sustainability topics identified by the Chicken Meat Industry Materiality Assessment, conducted in 2022. The development of the sustainability framework will align with Priority 1: Improving Environmental Sustainability outcomes, with its stated objective to achieve improved knowledge on the most significant components of the chicken meat industry’s environmental impacts, including sustainable resourcing.

 

The development of the Chicken Meat Sustainability Framework will help provide a foundation for strategic planning for the industry and will include the development of long-term sustainability objectives and targets, and associated key performance indicators, and support AgriFutures Australia in their overall objective of fostering an innovative, adaptive and valuable chicken meat industry in Australia.

In our experience with industry framework development, the strategy requires flexibility in its design to allow for ongoing iteration based on stakeholder feedback and evolving trends and regulatory conditions. We recommend a multi-year approach to Sustainability Framework maintenance, governance and iteration which goes beyond the scope of activities provided within this project proposal. Our proposed approach and fee relates to what could be achieved during 2023.
