Rice Research Australia will play host to the third consecutive Women in Rice network event on Thursday, 22 February 2018. The event aims to connect, empower and educate women involved in the rice industry and the wider farming community.

The Women in Rice network is a Rice Extension initiative, born out of the need to foster leadership and drive change in industries.

The event provides opportunities for women of the rice industry to share key knowledge and discuss challenges and prospects facing farm businesses, as well as share resources and create supportive networks and a sense of community.

This Women in Rice event will focus on building an understanding of innovation and research involved in producing rice for the changing marketplace.

The event will include a bus tour of Rice Research Australia Pty Ltd giving participants the opportunity to hear from industry experts about current research and technology. SunRice’s Shannon Cumberlidge and Riviana’s Kari Cook will also collaborate to speak about who the domestic and international rice buyers are and what they expect.

The event aims to attract women of all ranges of experience, knowledge and association with the rice industry. Women are encouraged to bring along their friends, sisters, mother, daughters and daughters-in-law to the event.

Successful Women in Rice events were held in Coleambally and Deniliquin in 2017. These events featured women from farms and across agriculture, speaking on topics ranging from grain marketing and communication skills to apps for farm businesses.

Rice Extension is funded by rice growers and the Australian Government through AgriFutures Australia. Rice Extension supports the adoption of innovation and research and development outcomes in the Australian rice industry.
