The 2021 Rice Industry Field Day on Wednesday, 10 March at ‘Old Coree’, Jerilderie will feature a bumper program showcasing the latest research, development, and extension in the rice industry.

With the current season looking good and a promising 2021 outlook, this year’s theme is Rice Innovation – restacking the shelves. As 2020 proved, the demand for rice is huge – it was the first staple food retailers restricted in response to panic buying.

The annual field day, bringing together all players in the rice industry, will feature  presentations, a field session, the C21 Rice Industry Awards launch, and static displays. For the full program click here.

The day’s highlights will include:

  • An update from AgriFutures Australia on the future of the Rice Program and its approach to transformational change in the rice industry
  • SunRice on what the Riverina Sustainability Framework means for growers, and on the current season, the broader business, and future outlook.
  • The Department of Primary Industries will update growers on their research investing whether slow-release fertilisers improve drill sown rice yields, new rice varieties in the pipeline, the best agronomic management for our major varieties, and the preliminary findings of the commercial remote sensing NDRE imagery trial.
  • Plus, Deakin University’s Assoc Professor John Hornbuckle will speak on smart irrigation control for water and labour savings for rice systems and whether is it possible to control water levels in your rice crops from the beach – or your favourite destination.

To end the day, attendees have the chance to catch up over dinner at historic ‘Old Coree’ homestead.
