Applications open: AgriFutures Chicken Meat Program Advisory Panel


AgriFutures Australia is seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for the AgriFutures Chicken Meat Program Advisory Panel. Applications are now open and close at 12.00PM 24 June 2020 (AEST).

The Advisory Panel consists of people with a range of skills and experience in the research, farming, veterinary, research, nutrition and processing sectors of the chicken meat industry, together with two representatives from AgriFutures Australia.

The Advisory Panel, in partnership with AgriFutures Australia, provides recommendations for the allocation of research, development and extension funding for the AgriFutures Chicken Meat Program and meets, on average, four times per year either in person or via enabling technology.

Members of the Advisory Panel:

  • Will be recompensed for their services to AgriFutures Australia at rates determined by the Commonwealth’s Remuneration Tribunal.
  • Do not hold financial delegations.
  • Are entitled to sitting fees for meetings and travel expenses.

Advisory Panel Member roles / responsibilities

The key functions of AgriFutures Australia Industry Advisory Panels are to:

  • Advise AgriFutures Australia on the current state of the industry, and its RD&E requirements.
  • Provide recommendations on short-listed research applications consistent with the research priorities identified in the AgriFutures Chicken Meat RD&E Plan
  • Advise on the dissemination, adoption and commercialisation of R&D
  • Encourage industry voluntary contributions and co-investment by other stakeholders to support industry RD&E.

Advisory Panel members will be selected through a competitive skills based process that addresses the skills need identified by the operational experience of the current panel. The term of appointment of Advisory Panel members will be initially for three years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms being applicable to any members of the Advisory Panel.

The skills, attributes and other industry factors considered for Advisory Panel members could include:

  • Knowledge of and involvement with the Australian chicken meat  industry
  • Chicken meat production and processing
  • Environmental management and resource conservation
  • Animal science research, development and extension
  • Economic evaluation of agricultural research projects or industry performance
  • Consumer behavior and food policy
  • Administration of research and development
  • Finance or business development
  • Education and training
  • Government policy
  • Communications.
