AgriFutures Australia welcomes new Senior Manager, Research – Dr Mila Bristow

AgriFutures Australia General Manager, Research John Smith has welcomed Dr Mila Bristow to the AgriFutures team based in Wagga Wagga, NSW as Senior Manager, Research.

Dr Bristow will initiate, drive and develop programs to support sustainable growth of our levied industries. Dr Bristow is well known to AgriFutures Australia in her role as a previous Emerging Industries Advisory Panel Member and past coordinator of NT Rural Woman’s Award.

Dr Bristow, who is a Doctor of Philosophy PhD in Forest Science from Southern Cross University is currently completing a Master’s in Business Administration at the University of South Australia. Dr Bristow maintains a strong interest and involvement in tropical forestry, particularly Indigenous-led forestry in northern Australia.

“We are thrilled to have Dr Bristow on board as she brings a wealth of industry and multi-disciplinary research experience to AgriFutures Australia in this new role,” said Mr Smith.

“Mila has broad industry experience following her extensive work at the Northern Territory (NT) Department of Primary Industry & Resources where she held several positions ranging from Director Plant Industries, Research Manager and Principal Research Scientist.”

Mr Smith added: “Mila led the NT’s Division’s Plant Industries Branch, where she partnered with Territory farmers and industry to ensure sustainable and profitable development across the agriculture, horticulture and forestry sectors. We are excited to see her bring this background to this new role.”

Dr Bristow said she was looking forward to working across different industries and managing programs which cover all aspects of research, development and extension for AgriFutures Levied Industries.

“One of the things I am most looking forward to, is connecting primary producers with research outcomes so they can enhance their farming systems,” said Dr Bristow.

“I am excited to be based in a regional centre at Wagga Wagga NSW and working with a dynamic team who are similarly passionate about the future of Australian agriculture.”

Dr Bristow has post-docs in applied landscape ecology and forest ecophysiology, both with a focus in improved sustainability of tropical production landscapes. She has enjoyed roles in teaching and supervising university students.
