Objective Summary

To develop an improved understanding of the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance of Salmonella involved in poultry production by: determination of the molecular epidemiology of resistance genes in Salmonella in humans and chickens clarification of the role bacteriophages in the transfer of antibiotic resistance in Salmonella and other enteric organisms such as Escherichia coli determining if antibiotic resistance can be transferred in the chicken gastrointestinal tract by bacteriophages.
