Summary
Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is now considered a pivotal component of responsible antimicrobial use, both nationally (as set out in the Australian Government National Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy) and globally (WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance). The project will review current AMS practices and procedures developed worldwide and select and develop those features most suitable, practical and effective for the Australian chicken meat industry. The development of the AMS programme at each stage will be consultative to ensure that the concerns, advice and recommendations of key members of the chicken meat industry are addressed and accommodated in the final plan.
