This guide is designed to assist meat chicken growers in making informed choices when it comes to replacing inefficient ventilation fans. The guide contains information that will help growers choose the most efficient ventilation fans to install on a shed, which fans to target for replacement, and how many fans should be replaced. The guide also provides information on tools growers can use to help decide if replacing fans is a viable option given their current set-up. To assist producers to calculate the potential energy and cost savings of replacing fans in their own situation, a spreadsheet is also available – ‘Ventilation Fan Cost Calculation Spreadsheet’ – which can also be downloaded from the RIRDC website.

For more information on fan performance and energy efficiency, refer to the final report ‘Review of fan efficiency in meat chicken sheds’, which is available on the RIRDC website (RIRDC Publication No. 15/018). Associated with this report is an additional spreadsheet which can be used to compare and rank fans against others in terms of energy efficiency, air flow and costs. These documents and tools provide additional information which will assist growers in selecting fans, once a decision is made to replace existing inefficient ventilation fans.
