Jojoba is a crop which appears to have a role as a diversification option for farmers in the drier areas of Australia.
A small number of growers are now harvesting this desert plant with potential for both domestic and export uses. Primarily it is used as an oil (though scientifically it is a wax) in cosmetics and other industries. The project was the second stage of the National Improvement Program for Jojoba. This project was supported by RIRDC with the objective of isolating the most productive lines of jojoba under changing climatic conditions and the influence of deferring degrees of chill.
