Waxflowers and red flowering gums are two of the most popular and commercially important plant groups in the ‘ornamental Australian plant’ industry. The forestry industry also uses relatives of the flowering gums extensively in Australia and internationally. The key aim of this study is to deliver superior ‘wide fertile hybrids’ of waxflower and clonal systems for producing selected colour forms of mature origin red flowering gums.

The main beneficiaries of this research are ‘ornamental Australian plant’ producers, wholesalers and retailers, in particular those in the cutflower industry.
